if i were going to go that route(and i did) i would go ahead and add another 100 bucks and get the big dish,at leat a 6 footer with a ku/c band lnb. there are several channels worth watching but most of them are on c band. the 97 ku band satellite is mostly arabic and religious channels and 123 channels are dropping and being sold off.you get the biography channel and history channel on AMC4 ku band and white springs tv on galaxy 27. where on c band you get abc, fox, nbc and cw on Galaxy 16 cw networks on galaxy 17 and ion television on AMC 1,plus some of what is on galaxy 18(123) is also on Galaxy 3C and with the THIS network on AMC 3, you get most of what is on ku band on c band. so to have shows you would want to maybe watch i would get a dish big enough to get c band channels.
but even then 85% of your channels are going to be religious or foreign programming. also a lot of the channels require AC3 audio or you cant get sound,so you will have to have something to get your AC3 audio.
if you do though you will have high quality sound and lots of digital tv so you get great picture as well, and there are a lot of wild feeds that carry sports so a blind scan on the weekends could bring in a few ball games

thats what the box is made for, real fta, theres different sats you can get free english programming and commercial feeds and news. best you get a motor.
theres a update site on fta feeds other then lyng sat site for english feeds that are on sats now. programming comes and goes. most is foreign language. g10r use to be good, its been renamed gallaxy ? I get it on a star choice dish and lnb. , but you need a motor for the rest. 97 west renamed numberous times is good for aljeezera news , but mostly ethnic.
amc4 bio channel and history which are open now, thats the hotel programming satellite at the moment I noticed. good luck.

Ive always enjoyed my FLU and a Pansat for true FTA.. like he says above 97 n 123 have lots of stuff on them..
the motor with the FLU is great for going back and fourth between the sats.
there are other birds out there you can use too..
someone had a list around here but i cant find it or i'd post it for you..
give it a shot bro

Ok, now you all have me intrigued. I had a 10' dish in the '80's and it was a blast to scan to see what was out there. Used to get lots of hockey feeds and the raw news feeds were interesting some times. I saw Ted Koppal get mad one time and lose it during one.

So if I went with another 10' or a little smaller dish with a motor, with the right kind of LNB I can use my VS boxes to watch true FTA? Thanks in advance, I know this will cost me some bucks.
