are there any schematics for the Viewsat boxes ?????
I think it may be a fuse..... I got it to find the box but it does not go any further... so I might think it's a fuse..... any Ideas.... Help.... Thanks guys..... |

What leads you to think it might be a fuse? Do you have any indication of power on the VS? If so,I doubt it would be a fuse. From reading your earlier post it looks more like a com port issue.
If you are using a usb to serial adapter, make sure it has the proper drivers and check in device manager to see if it is there and what com port is assigned. Just some thoughts.

This may be a stupid question!! but did you try shutting off the receiver from the back switch, waiting 10 secs, then turn it back on.
I had to do this the last couple files for some reason the receiver would recognize the usb, but wouldn't read the file. |

Well, before tearing into your receiver, I would look at the USB to serial adapter. They have been known to cause all types of aggravation. Which OS are you using XP or Vista? Reason I ask is that I have avoided Vista so far and am not as conversant with it as I am with XP.
As step one, I would download the latest driver for your adapter from the manufacturer's site. Then go into device manager and uninstall the adapter. Next following the adapter manufacturer's instructions reinstall the the adapter. Once you have installed the driver and the hardware, check in device manager to see what com port it is using. Then connect your receiver to the adapter making sure you are using a null modem ( cross over cable) for your Viewsat. Configure loader to the same com port as indicated in device manager. With receiver off (rear Power switch), select file you wish to load, click on PC->STB and immediately turn on the rear power switch. Let me know what happens. With regard to your question about putting in USB circuit in the extreme - short answer is no. Long answer is that it "MIGHT" be possible, but by the time you do all the required modifications it would be easier and likely less expensive to buy a new receiver. Other recommendation is to find an inexpensive old clunky laptop that runs either Win98 or Win2K that has serial ports and use that as an exclusive flashing machine. I've an old Acer laying around here that I use just for that. Oh I have a newer P4 with serial ports that I can use as well. Either that or pick up a real cheap desktop unit as a flashing station. I like the laptop as I can take it to the receivers - less cable fiddling that way. I hope this helps a bit. Read my post on strange happenings too. You never know what will cause weird things to happen. http://www.fortecfiles.com/viewsat-d...xperience.html Good luck
