NEW YORK (UPI) -- Orlando Magic Coach Stan Van Gundy had been fined $35,000 for publicly criticizing referees this week, the NBA announced Friday .
An additional $35,000 fine was assessed against the Magic for Van Gundy's actions.
He is the third coach this week to be fined for complaining about the job being done by replacement officials, who have been working during the exhibition season because the NBA has not reached a contract agreement with the regular referees.
The league's crackdown on public complaints comes with less than two weeks remaining before the start of the regular season. Grumbling by head coaches is seen as weakening the league's position in contract talks.
