Thumbs up Frank Gore named top NFC offensive player

NEW YORK (UPI) -- San Francisco running back Frank Gore has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.

The former University of Miami-Florida product gained 207 yards on 16 attempts, including touchdown runs of 79 and 80 yards, leading the 49ers to a 23-10 win over Seattle.

His 12.9 yards per carry average Sunday represented the NFL's third-highest single-game mark since 1970 and he joined former Detroit great Barry Sanders with two touchdown runs of at least 75 yards in one game.

It marked Gore's 16th career 100-yard effort and the second time he surpassed the 200-yard barrier.

Thumbs up F. Gore to return to practice this week

This is just an update status report on Frank Gore:
Injured 49ers running back Frank Gore is expected to return
to practice this week after missing the past two games with
an ankle injury suffered in Week 3 at Minnesota. Glen Coffee
had been starting in his place.

Hopefully Gore will be healthy and ready to roll against a
porous Texans run defense in Week 7. If you own him, be
prepared to start him assuming he practices enough before
the game. Now is also a great time to acquire Coffee on the
cheap to insure your run game for the rest of the season.
We'll keep you posted on Gore's status.
