WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Someone on the Washington Redskins staff sold game tickets to brokers, squeezing the team's own fans out of their stadium, The Washington Post reports.

The Post reported Wednesday the situation became evident last November during a Pittsburgh-Washington contest at FedEx Field, the Redskins' home stadium at Landover, Md. The 91,000-seat stadium was filled with "Terrible Towel-waving" Pittsburgh fans, who were so loud the Washington offense could not hear the signals of quarterback Jason Campbell, the Post said.

Many tickets were sold by StubHub and ASC Tickets of Gaithersburg, Md., and some were re-sold above face value by Washington season-ticket holders.

General Counsel David Donovan told the newspaper prohibited sales were discovered last spring during an internal audit of 2008 season ticket contracts and involved about 15 ticket brokering companies.

"Somebody in the ticket office was doing something they shouldn't have been doing, and when it was discovered, it was all dealt with," Senior Vice President Karl Swanson added.

Donovan said team owner Daniel M. Snyder was "livid" when he found out about the sales, which violate team policy.

The team's waiting list includes 150,000-160,000 fans.
