NEW YORK (UPI) -- The NFL announced Wednesday it has extended its contract with NBC Sports to televise league games on Sunday night through 2013.

The original six-year contract would have expired following the 2011 season.

In addition to televising Sunday games, the contract allows NBC to televise the season-opening Thursday night game each year, along with both of the Saturday games on the first weekend of the playoffs.

The contract also calls for a continuation of the "flexible scheduling," which permits NBC to move games into the Sunday night slot late in the season to show contests that have implications for the standings.

That's good news for people who don't have cable. I am really going to miss the monday night games since we are down. I wish that ABC would have kept the Monday night games, but money is always the source of changes.

I am glad too. MNF has not been nearly as exciting with ESPN and literally a "Pay-Per-View" event now. Sunday Night with Madden has been great. Too bad he is retired.

The production and video (camera selection, angle etc.) and replay angles are WAY better with NBC. I don't think that ESPN can ever re-capture the ABC MNF quality ... Ever.

Just my humble opinion/rant.
