LOS ANGELES (UPI) -- Guard Kobe Bryant will stay with forgo free agency and stay with the world champion Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Bryant had the option of becoming an unrestricted free agent but has chosen not to end his contract, a source described as close to Bryant told the Times Tuesday.
The newspaper said Bryant is expected to sign a three-year contract extension on top of his existing two-year contract this month.
Bryant will be paid a guaranteed $47.8 million in the next two years and earn an estimated $85 million or more with his contract extension, the Times said.
Bryant, who turns 31 next month, averaged 32.4 points, 7.4 assists and 5.6 rebounds in the NBA Finals against Orlando, helping the Lakers to their first NBA title since 2002.
