WE CAN ONLY RECEIVE A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF DOWNLOADS WITH OUR HUGHES xxx. DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE DSL OR WILL IT WORK WITH THE INTERNET SERVICE I HAVE? EXCUSE THE IGNORANCE

First of all the all caps have to go; it's considered screaming. Secondly, welcome to the site, there are lots of great helpers here. The files are zipped files and are generally 1mb or less; so this should not be a problem for you. Don't have hughes but isn't it supposed to be on a par with dsl? If so, again you should have no problem. Maybe someone will answer here who has your service. Sonicview has been having significant problems lately. When it was working it was very good. Not so good to useless the last month or so. We are hoping that they survive. Be sure to check all the current options for your new box before jumping in. Good luck.

It's true that their IKS service had to been going downhill for the past months. Until now its availability has been unpredictable.

Hopefully, that was just until now.

SV's available subscriber channels have been working well and only occasionally freezing most of the day today.

Yeah with Hughes you only have a limited number of megs you can download a day, after that it will only operate at the speed of a snail. It will work if you have the better package and aren't on the computer a lot downloading stuff.

IKS control words are delivered in tcp packets, not download related.Your modem will see it as if you are surfing the web,it will not affect your downloads at all.
As far as Hughes net,it will work, but some have not had success. The type of router you have and your skill level makes the difference.
The easiest router to work with is the old tried and true Linksys wrt-54g.

It is a limited amount even surfing the web QUMAN,I am running two I-Links on my Hughes system and by the end of the day my internet speed slows down.I have called Hughes about usage and they even told me that it is a limited amount per day depending on the package that you have with them.It even says so on their website.Any information sent is considered some sort of a download.

I hard wired my SV360 through a router.I had a local computer shop make a CAT5 cable long enough or you can buy one on flea-bay reasonable. One problem I have found with wireless routers is that several cordless phones over power the signal from the router and then your receiver quits working while your on the phone.Just a thought to keep in mind.
