Stand-alone FTA testing days are gone now and IKS is here to stay.
Like you said, IKS is business. Not some uncharted new territory. SV should be running it like a business and treating SV IKS users as customers, instead of torturing them with their lousy levels of service.
IKS or Card Sharing platforms have been working in Europe for several years now. Many FTA STBs already have IKS client functionality (Spacestar/SonySat, CaptiveWorks, DreamBox, etc ...). Unlike the standalone FTA units, card sharing client STBs don't require periodic firmware updates.
In SV's case, the STB firmware and the IHub dongle needed new firmware to enable the IKS functionality.
Typically, there is no need for on-going updates on the Client side to keep the system working. But, on the Server side, the deployment of additional servers and load balancing technology may temporarily interrupt the service.
According to SV, they are working hard on major improvements.
However, there's no reasonable explanation for all these delays because they aren't waiting for the coders to release new firmware. Instead, now we are just waiting for the SV IKS servers to finally stay up and running.
