DISH Expands MPEG-4 Effort
DISH Network said it will utilize its MPEG-4 platform to deliver video to customers in an 11 additional markets in the Eastern half of the United States.

The move brings to 32 the number of markets that can receive standard and high-def programming in the MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding Standard from the DBS company. The effort includes all standard and high-definition programming broadcast in MPEG-4 via DISH's MPEG-4 HD and HD DVR receivers.

The new markets include Beaumont-Port Arthur, Texas; Boston; Grand Rapids-Kalamazoo-Battle Creek, Mich; Greenville-New Bern, N.C.; Lansing, Mich.; Madison, Wis.; Milwaukee, Wis.; Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, Va.; Orlando-Daytona Beach-Melbourne, Fla. West Palm Beach-Fort Pierce, Fla.; and Wilkes Barre-Scranton, Pa. The first 21 markets launched in August are Cleveland; Richmond, Va.; Baltimore.; Columbia, S.C.; Tampa; Green Bay; Greensboro, N.C.; Providence, R.I.; Greenville, S.C., Knoxville, Tenn.; Raleigh, N.C.; Chicago; Detroit; Charlotte, N.C.; Dallas; Nashville, Tenn.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Philadelphia.; Washington, D.C.; New York, N.Y.; and Hartford, Conn.

Additional markets will be added at a later date, the company said
