No Stopping Telco Video
Despite some suggestions that video subscriber enrollments for Verizon and AT&T could be slowing, the companies reported solid customer gains for their respective TV services during the second quarter.
Verizon's FiOS TV netted 176,000 net new customers in the period, for a total of nearly 1.4 million subscribers at the end of the quarter. That's down from the very solid 263,000 customers FiOS TV netted in the first quarter. But the 2Q figure topped the 167,000 customers that the fiber-supported video service netted in second quarter 2007.
AT&T said U-verse TV netted 170,000 customers in the second quarter, taking the subscriber count for the IPTV offering to 549,000. That compares to the 148,000 net enrollments for U-verse TV in the first quarter.
AT&T has more than doubled the number of U-verse TV customers since the start of the year.
