Dish Network will add two high-definition specialty channels to its lineup that will be solely dedicated to the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Dish’s agreement with NBC Universal will bring NBC Olympic Soccer Channel and NBC Olympic Basketball Channel to Dish Network subscribers, offering them all-day HD coverage for each sport.
Dish also will make available more than 800 hours of Olympics coverage in HD through the two HD channels, an NBC-produced VOD title and NBCU’s multichannel distribution.
Coverage of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games also will air on Dish-distributed NBCU channels such as NBC HD, USA HD, CNBC HD and Universal HD.
“We are excited to utilize the full extent of our services to offer the best of NBCU’s coverage of the Olympic Games for our subscribers,” Eric Sahl, senior vice president of programming for Dish Network, said in a statement. “Dish Network is a leader in sports and HD; our more than 800 hours of NBC’s Olympic coverage demonstrates our ability to use our services to deliver live HD and recorded content, as well as daily highlights and recaps, to ensure our subscribers enjoy comprehensive coverage of the Games.”
