Dish Network Said to Mull Merger With *******
August 5, 2008, 7:04 am

As Dish Network copes with the first quarterly subscriber losses reported by a major U.S. satellite-TV provider, the company is considering another attempt to merge with ******* Group, The Wall Street Journal reported citing unnamed sources.

Dish Network’s chairman and chief executive, Charles Ergen, is considering the first run at a satellite-TV merger since 2001. That attempt was shut down by opposition from federal and state regulators, but Mr. Ergen has been emboldened by the drawn-out but successful union of satellite radio companies Sirius and XM Satellite, the Journal said.

Efforts to reach another deal, such as a sale to AT&T, may be hamstrung by Dish Network’s loss of 25,000 subscribers in the past quarter. Concerns about that shrinking customer base offset news about Dish Network’s 50 percent increase in net income, to $335.9 million, or 73 cents a share.

loss of 25000 subscribers ill take part of that credit the loss is bs where i buy my cable and such they do installation for dn between new customers and upgrades his store alone on average have work orders of 200-250 per day this is just im my area i am more then sure its the same anywhere else if they keep raising there price they will lose more people as well with the econemy right now who can afford to dish out 60-100 per month for junk tv there receivers break down so much then the people wait 3-5 days for a (installer) to show up and try to trouble shoot the units then a few days later get shipped a new receiver who wouldnt switch to something else just my 3 cents worth and all this is another reason fta will never go away to big of a demand

Would agree with Musky that all things end.

With the talk of DN to merge with DTV. The encoding that DTV has might then come into play. Plus we know that N3 might hit at some time.

It is all bucks for Dish to spend and the question is if they are going to with their customers shrinking.

Personally, I feel N3 has been broken and if so no manufacture should say they have done it. Let the providers update then show N3 is broken.

But with that SV360Elite and the Hard Drive I have about enough to watch for a year (with what little the wife and I watch).
