Paramount Execs are considering producing a sequel to the popular horror flick
Is two better than one?
Paramount Studios seems to think so. According to the L.A. Times, Paramount executives are actively pursuing a sequel to the box office hit “Paranormal Activity.”
"We have the rights on a worldwide basis to do 'Paranormal 2' and we're looking to see if that makes some sense," Paramount Chairman Brad Grey said in an interview today with the Times.
According to the LA Times, the popular horror movie, which cost only $15,000 to produce, has already grossed $62.5 million in the United States and on track to gross over $100,000. That would make it the most profitable movie in the studio’s history.
Paramount has some extra incentive to pursue a sequel. The studio only has domestic rights to the current film, which means it doesn’t make any money from overseas sales.
The film, which will begin being shown internationally on Friday, is controlled overseas by IM Global.
However, with Paranormal owning global rights to the second film, it could translate into an even bigger profit for the studio.
