A new up-to date set-up guide for mytheatre needs to be posted since we do get the fixes here. I will be getting my notes in order and share them with this forum as time permits per my testing. Since I am presently using the Mytheatre with a DVB-s skystar-2 card. Hoping we can bring this part of the form to life.
![]() Ok Here it is and Enjoy!! MyTheatre Instruction for Beginners If you have a Pentium 500 MHz or better you can test on your computer, and, depending whether you choose a hard or soft mode card, you can hook it up to your TV set. DVB PCI cards are for those who don't mind having a satellite system entirely dependent on a running PC. Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) has been the standard format for digital video for nearly a decade. It has replaced the older DSS and Digicipher 2 formats that were used in the earliest days of digitally compressed satellite signals. In addition to satellite providers, digital cable TV providers are beginning to use the DVB format. Therefore, there are three types of DVB PCI cards: DVB-C cards are used for cable, DVB-T cards are used for terrestrial over-the-air multichannel TV (something that has not been used in North America), and DVB-S cards are used for satellite TV. This chapter focuses on the latter. A major advantage to using DVB-S cards (or stand-alone FTA receivers, for that matter) is the fact that you can watch Bell ExpressVu and Dish Network without having to hook up two receivers. If this is the route you plan to go, it is important to remember that the cost of a single DVB-S card is much less than the cost of purchasing two receivers and two test cards. The other bonus to DVB-S is the fact that your card can function as a PVR. You can record television programs to your hard drive—and even burn them to a VCD or DVD with the right software. If you are running in software mode, you can even have a few "TiVo" functions like pausing and resuming live TV. These are both functions that the most commonly used Pansat and Fortec receivers are not capable of. The most expensive DVB-S cards are the ones that are required if you have a slower computer (under 1 GHz) or if you want TV-out. The WinTV Nexus-S and the TechnoTrend 1.5/1.6 are the two hard-mode cards available in the market at this time. Hard-mode cards function much like a stand-alone receiver in that the video and memory processing and streaming are done on the unit instead of on the processor and memory of your PC. This is why they work well with slower computers. With hard-mode cards, you do not need video codecs or other graphics software for the unit to work. You also have the option of hooking the video to a standard TV set. This allows your PC to double as a satellite receiver. Soft-mode cards require a faster processor than do hard-mode cards. This is because the video stream is processed through software via your PC's processor and memory. These cards tend to be less expensive than hard-mode cards. However, you do need at least a 1 GHz processor in order for them to work. The soft-mode cards are not equipped with TV-out. In order to have the video displayed on a standard TV set, you will need to have a video card that has TV out. Also, you will need to install the proper codecs and graphs to work with your DVB software. A major advantage to soft-mode cards is the fact that unlike hard-mode cards, they are capable of receiving High-Definition TV when used with a 3 GHz processor. There are several soft-mode cards on the market at this time: VisionPlus 1020A, WinTV Nova PCI, WinTV Nova USB, SkyStar 2, and SkyStar USB Unlike standard IRDs, the DVB-S cards use a Digital Satellite Equipment Control (DiSEqC) switch. This is required if you are hooking up two to four LNBs to your DVB-S card.It is very important to emphasize that the SW-21, SW-44, and other standard Dish Network switches are 100% incompatible with your DVB-S card. They cannot be used with the card or in combination with a DiSEqC Instead of having multiple dishes and LNBs for all the satellites, why not just have a single dish that moves between satellites? That’s what a Horizon-to-Horizon (HH) motor is for. There are two types of HH motors. The DiSEqC 1.2 motor. The other one is the STAB /USALS motor (also called DiSEqC 1.3). Both essentially do the same thing: Move the dish using the remote control of your FTA receiver. This is done by connecting a standard coax from the receiver to the motor and a second coax from the motor to the LNB. The motor is powered by the receiver. HH motors are typically used with stand-alone FTA receivers such as the Fortec or Pansat. However, with the right software plugins, they can certainly be used with DVB-S cards as well. DVB-S cards require four different types of software to run on your PC. First, you'll need the driver for your particular card. Secondly, you’ll need an MPEG2 codec so that you can view the decoded video with software applications. Third, you'll need the DVB software application to display the video on your PC or TV. Finally, you'll need a softcam to decode Dish and/or BEV. All DVB-S cards come with the necessary drivers. They are quite easy to install. However, you might at some point be required to alter a driver because a certain card model requires it. For instance, ProgDVB needs a driver other than the one bundled with the WinTV Nova to work properly with that card. WinTV Nexus needs a special driver to work properly with MyTheatre. The driver required for MyTheatre comes bundled with the download package, but the driver for the Nova to work with ProgDVB must be downloaded. These are just two examples. In most cases, the driver bundled with your DVB-S card should work flawlessly. INSTALLATION OF TWINHAN CARD Install DVB card in a free PCI slot and turn computer on. Microsoft has all the drivers for the Twinhans. So when turn computer on, it will detect the card and ask you to search the net for drivers. Click "Yes" and they will be installed for you. DO NOT install the software that came with the card. It is useless to us, as there in no provision for plugins and such. Turn you computer off, connect LNB cable in back of the card. There are two connection, one is "LNB IN" and the other "LNB OUT". Obviously, connect it to LNB IN. Do not connect or disconnect LNB cable while MT is running or you will fry your DiSEq or LNB. Now turn computer on. Download "Plugins" take the contents of Plugins file and drag them in MT's Plugins folder (C:\Program Files\MyTheatre\Plugins). Or just take the Plugins folder and drop it on MT's main folder. It will ask you if it is OK to replace, just say "Yes", or rename the old one. Click on MT's shortcut to run it. Right click on MT's TV screen and go down to "Settings" then over to "General Settings" and click on the tab "Miscellaneous". Here, put a check mark in front of "Change channel by single click" and "Turn LNB power off upon exit", Leave the rest alone. Click on "x" to get out. Codecs If you have a software-mode card (Nova, Twinhan, VP1020), then you will need a MPEG2 codec in order for your card to function ProgDVB One of the two DVB software application programs widely used in North America is called ProgDVB. This program is the author's preferred software for many reasons: 1) It is the only software that currently supports the WinTV Nexus remote control. 2) The drivers for the WinTV Nexus work without any additional installations or modifications. 3) Total control over the channel list (customized numbering, channel list by number, custom sorting by folder, unlimited favorite lists) makes using ProgDVB as much like having a stand-alone receiver as possible. There are some disadvantages, however. ProgDVB works great with just about every card except for VisionPlus. Also, if you like TiVo-like features, such as pausing and resuming live TV, you might be better off with MyTheatre. MyTheatre The most popular DVB software application is MyTheatre. There are several reasons why a majority of testers disagree with the author's widely professed preference for ProgDVB: 1) MyTheatre supports every DVB card that is used in the testing market, including the VisionPlus, which is not supported in ProgDVB. 2) If using software mode on a 3 GHz computer, High Definition TV is much more stable on MyTheatre than Prog. 3) MyTheatre is the only DVB software application that supports PVR/TiVo functions. There are a few disadvantages as well. MyTheatre is no longer freeware if you are loading MT for the first time, you will see European satellites instead of North American. This is because MyTheatre, like all DVB software, is produced for a mostly European audience. Here on this side of the Atlantic (way beyond the reach of Eutelsat, Astra, and Hotbird), we generally need to set up the software so that it suits our needs. If you have DishPro (DP) LNBs, you must "Import" a modified list of TPs from your source of your file section In this list, the Horizontal transponders have been converted to Vertical because DVB software (MT, Ritz and others), can't "see"the Horizontal transponders. Choose Echostar 7 or Echostar 6.8 for Dishnet. Below this window, you will see the name of the sat you just chose, and at the end of this line is a "button" that says "DiSEqC". click on that and choose "Simple LNB1". This means, there is no DiSEq and you have connected the LNB directly to computer. If you use a DiSEq and have connected sat 110 to port 1 and 119 to port 2 then you don't click on "simple LNB" but on "committed LNB1", click on "Do Now" and on "OK". Below the DiSEq "button", there are three boxes (LOF1:, SW:, and LOF2: ). Put 11250000 in LOF1 and a 0 in SW. In LOF2 put this number: 11250000. Now click the "Apply" button (under SW box). Don't forget to click on "Apply". In same screen, right hand side, is a box with the transponder frequencies. Click on "Sellect All" and Scan. For 61.5, select Echostar 3; LOF1&2 = 11250000 For 82, select Nimiq 2; LOF1&2 = 11250000 For 91, select Nimiq 1; LOF1&2 = 11250000 For 105, select AMC2; LOF1&2 = 10750000 For 110, select Echostar 5, 8; LOF1&2 = 11250000 For 119, select Echostar 7; LOF1&2 = 11250000 For 121, select Echostar 9; LOF1&2 = 10750000 For each satellite that you apply the proper settings, you will need to click "Apply" and then proceed to the next LNB setting When you are ready to scan, click “Sel All” in the transponder portion of the screen. This will highlight every transponder on a particular satellite. Once highlighted, click the “Scan” button and sit back and allow MyTheatre to scan the channels. You will need to check the Color system and make sure that you have NTSC selected. PAL is the standard in Europe and is the default setting for most DVB software applications. Also, check the Video Output settings and choose the ones that are most appropriate for your TV/video setup. In the Graphs menu, select the one most appropriate for your card Next, you'll learn how to arrange your channels. When you scan your channels, you will likely see them arranged by transponder or by provider. Select Sat and you will see them arranged by Satellite. To show all channels, select “All”. MyTheatre arranges all channels alphabetically, so in order to sort them by channel number, you would have to rename them “0101 DNFYI”, “0200 CNN”, “0300 HBO-E”, and so on. It's a time-consuming process to arrange them by their provider-assigned channel numbers. Select a channel that you want to edit. To get to the Properties, you will need to right-click on that channel. The Channel Properties window appears when you right-click on the channel. You can change the name and provider by highlighting the text and changing it in the appropriate fields. If you want to make a favorites list, use the pull-down menu to select the appropriate favorites list for this particular channel. You can also create a new one by clicking the “New” button underneath the menu. When you have made the necessary changes, click “Apply Changes .With the above information, you should have MyTheatre up and running Ok Here is the summary of what you need if Using the Soft Mode Cards (TwinHan) (1) MyTheatre (2) Plugins (3) Mpeg2 Codecs (4)PATIENCE Hope This Helps you Out. I've included attachment listed below. Remember these attachments for the setup will tell you to use different plugin. Just replace the plugin with the new and latest EmuNation 3.0.4.9 file Enjoy And Have A Great Day!! Last edited by truckert; 2nd August 2008 at 11:44 PM. Reason: uploading Files |
