Manual Key Entry Coolsat 4000 Pro
Using The Manual Key Entry Function Of The Coolsat 4000 Pro
1. Depending on your particular OSD transparency setting (mine's at 70%), you may have to first select a real TV channel that can provide a steady background (just makes it easier to see the OSD). Then, from the normal "TV-watching" mode, enter "8282" on the remote, like you were entering a channel number. This brings up the "KEY Edit" screen. 2. You will see five boxes at the top of the screen; these are "slots" where the info for a particular stream format and service provider are stored. There are 200 total slots available, but only 77 slots are populated by default (1-77). The left and right arrow keys will scroll through the slots. Only 5 slots will be displayed at a time, so yes, it takes a while to get through all 200, but the left/right arrow keys have autorepeat - just hold the button down and zip through the list . Slot #1 should be selected right now (highlighted). 3. Hit the down arrow; now you can change the stream format in the CAS entry (but don't!). If you decide to scroll through the list, be sure and set it back to "Nagravision" when you're done. 4. Hit the down arrow again and now you can change the service provider ID (don't change this either!). But, if you get curious, just set it back to "D*** N****** (0001)" before moving on. 5. Push the down arrow again, and now the first digit of the tag "10" should be highlighted This seems to be what is generally known as "key 0" for nag2, and the next one, marked "11", is "key 1". It *is* possible to change the tags (10, 11, 20, 21), but don't - I have no idea what effect this would have on the system, and there's no reason to mess with them. Push the down arrow one more time and now the cursor is on the first digit of the actual key. There are two ways to enter new digits, and I find that the first method is the quickest and easiest: a) Hit the "OK" button; a drop-down menu of all possible digits will appear. Use all four arrow keys to highlight the digit you want, push "OK", and that digit will go into the key and the key cursor will be moved to the next digit. Continue until all digits are entered, and then hit "Exit" to get out of the drop-down menu. b) You enter numbers directly from the remote's numeric keys and the key cursor will automatically move to the next digit. Use the "Info" key to enter hex letters, but note that the cursor will stay on the same digit in this case, so you have to hit the right arrow key to manually move to the next one. So if you get the keys from, say, Keymaster, enter what they call "Key0" in the space tagged "10" on the screen; enter what they call "Key1" in the space tagged "11" on the screen. I don't know what the tags/keys "20" and "21" are for, but they don't seem to be active (for nag2 at least). 6. When you're all finished changing stuff, first verify all data on the screen. Then hit the "Exit" key; a dialog box will pop up asking if you want to save the changes - if you're *really* entering new info, left arrow to "Yes" and push "OK". Otherwise, if just browsing, hit "OK" ("No" is highlighted by default - exit with no save). "Cancel" will cancel the exit/save and keep you on the key edit screen where you left off. Additional Notes ---------------------- The key changes seem to take less than a minute to become effective, so if you update the keys and don't see pix within 5 minutes of saving and exiting the key edit screen, then something's wrong (info not entered correctly, bad keys, etc.). Just an observation, but it seems like both of these 8-byte keys are required, as opposed to nag1 where either the one 8-byte set or the other would be used independently of the other set. |
