Interesting comment, but lacking in substance. Bev rep? now that's an interesting expression. Does it mean a direct employee of bev or an authorized dealer for bev products? Either way reminds me of the old I heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend of mine...........
Another plan up their sleeves? Well since Dave uses completely different hardware and software to be identical to him would require a complete system change. Now if they mean strengthening their current N3 encryption that could be a possibility. In any case only time will tell what will transpire.
As for all of the "official dates" being bantered about, just hang out here and if and when the stand alone solutions appear you know you can get them here.
In the meantime relax, get a sub, cable, or a motorized dish and go wild feed and back haul hunting.
