Is this a trend with fta

Hi,

I'm fairly new to the FTA (I think almost 2 years). My question is how long was the wait for files from N1 to N2?

I have an CaptiveWorks 800s and am hearing about some sort of IHUB (or something) coming out soon that will allow us to pick up channels. And from another post it going to cost in the hundreds of dollars.

So I guess what I'm sort of getting at is I'm starting to think there is nothing really free, and the whole FTA thing is nothing more than another business. You keep having to upgrade to something?

Like I said I'm new to this and just trying to be patient and wait, but something inside me is making me think maybe I need to get a subscription???

not free for sure but very cheap for the programing u receive.I enjoy most aspects of fta thats me but if this is too expensive for u or too much trouble then a sub mite be best a small package mite run u 40-50 bucks a month thats between 5 and 6 hundred a year with no ppv no special events but to each his own

I've noticed 4 years ago this very same thing happend with fta units, they were talking about a card sharing device that would attach to the reciever, now this time around there is talk about a dongle,SKS,IKS,.I have been with FTA for about 7yrs.when the switch from nag,to nag2 took almost 3 months for a stand alone file.

N1 to N2 only took a short time it was the MAP 57 that they followed N2 with that took a few weeks.

Dongles are typically $100.00 or less.

FTA is free, there are lots of channels out there with the right dish and motor. You are confusing DN and Bev with FTA. They aren't FTA, they are subscriber carriers.

If you are tired of waiting get a sub. That is the best way to ensure you have tv.

It took a little over two months for the N1 to the N2 switch and I waited it out with the hope that they would have a fix soon and one day I got online and checked and there it was.Map 57 did take a while and I almost thought that they finally figured out a way to secure N2 but it was eventually undone as well.I am sure that this will be the case here too.

You tell us what receiver is not using a "Dongle or Ihub" and is stable right now? No stand alone fixes for Charlie or Bev channels that I know of.

Are you talking about true free-to-air? If so then say it so people will know what you are saying. If you are talking about true FTA then what satellite do you suggest?

Agreed sentiment FlaRon!! Beside, this is testing. Something to keep your brain working trying to find a way to see tv. (and avoid the po po's). There is nothing 'free' about free to air when it comes do dealing with Nagra based programming. If that is what is on your mind, thinking it is free then SUFFER!! The whole idea is to keep you from watching so they have a paying subscriber base. With no subscriber base, what would be the purpose of operating a satellite based tv programming system?
We must all keep in mind that there is the possibility of this NEVER coming back! Remember DTV? How many threads did we read the the new card was hacked? I still have my DTV anchor at the bottom of my basement stairs holding down the rest of the junk. along with my previously subbed receivers for this from years gone by. Be patient, get a digital box for your antenna, subscribe to Dave, or to your local cable company. Me? I just hooked my own cable up because I am just that way. Gotta see some sports that arent available anywhere else
