How-to-fix-a-COOLSAT REMOTE. . .
If the CS 5k does respond to some of the remotes controls, then it's not the remote problem but a faulty CS 5k.
If you search the threads, you'll see that there's both problems This procedure is fix the remote that does NOTHING on a CS 5k.
The following procedure returns the remote to a "default" setting so that it can control the CS 5k.

1) Remove both batteries, and check to see that there's no 'plastic' wrap covering the battery clips... one user reported that problem.
2) Use an alligator clip and short the + and - terminals for 30 secs or so. The correct terminals are the two at the BOTTOM of the remote as you look at it from the back side. After 30 secs, remove the "short".
* If want to see what the voltage is, a voltmeter will show about 2.6Vdc before the "short" is applied. This is due to the charge on a 'storage' cap.
3) replace the batteries (watch for the right order!)
The remote should now control the CS 5k! If it doesn't then it probably needs to be exchanged.
A caveat: check to see that there's no plastic over the battery contacts. One user found that to be the problem! Remove the plastic and the remote was perfect!
Another caveat: Another user's remote was dead. If you pushed the stb button light did not come on. So he put a piece of tin foil at the positive end of each battery and it fixed the problem. The positive terminal was "mashed" and there was no connection. There is a spring on the negative terminals so not much chance of a bad connection there.
Is the remote alive??
The best way to check your remote is aim the IR eye (LED looking thing) at a cell phone camera, digital camera or a webcam. Infrared is seen by everyone and everything pretty much other than humans. So the camera will see it as blinking light while pressing a button, "OK" for example, on the remote.
