Coolsat Troubleshooting

Coolsat Troubleshooting Guide

This Guide may not cover every issue, but hopefully it will cover issues that keep
many seem to have trouble with. If you have suggestions to add please post below.

updated 07/07/06 for CoolSat pro (firmware 1.24 and later.)

Don't feel bad that it takes you longer than 15 minutes to setup the CoolSat. It takes many people longer than that depending on their skill level.

Common Issues.....

====I CAN'T CONNECT TO MY COOLSAT +/PRO====

-Be sure that your using the correct cable and com port.

Some vendors may ship the wrong serial cable with
Coolsat. Coolsat + uses a null modem serial cable.
CoolSat Pro uses a straight thru serial cable.

**USB to serial adapters**

If your using a laptop with no serial port you can
use a USB to Serial adapter. Open device manager
to see what com port the USB has opened.

-If you use a different USB port the next time you
connect the adapter the com port may also change
assignment.

====WHAT ARE THE TYPICAL SETTINGS FOR THE LNB'S====

(SINGLE RECEIVER SETUP: USING A DISEQC SWITCH)

LNB setting:
===119=========== Ech0* 7
lnb power - on
lnb type - single
lnb freq - 11.250
22khz - off
diseqc - 1.0
lnb # 1
===110=========== Ech0* 6,8
lnb power - on
lnb type - single
lnb freq - 11.250
22khz - off
diseqc - 1.0
lnb # 2

===WHERE IS THE FIRMWARE THAT I DOWNLOAD====

-This seems to be the most popular question-

I wouldn't want to ruin the fun, **They are in the
coolsat file section

====I DON'T GET ANY SIGNAL ON MY COOLSAT====

-Is the dish pointed correctly? Do you see good signal on
most transponders? CoolSat currently has no way of knowing
if your pointed to the correct satellite. It will only
report that it sees signal on a particular transponder
frequency. (It may show signal on 81 when pointed to 110)

A satellite tuner makes the job a lot simpler
They are well worth the $10-20 investment.

**it is imperative that the satellite mast
(mounting pole) is 100% plumb.

-Not all transponders on any given satellite may be active*

Some posts/guides have suggested that people remove dead
transponders when observing signal levels on certain
satellites. I haven't found that to be necessary.
Example 119 TP #1 shows no signal. So change to TP#2
and view the signal quality there.

-Bad Cable, Switch, or LNB's?

====COOLSAT KEYS WON'T ROLL, ALL I SEE IS SCRAMBLE CHANNEL====

You've loaded the latest softcam.key, etc....

-Be sure to load the latest flash version (currently 1.24)
Then Relax... *You should not load the softcam key or edit in
your own key. If your dish is aligned correctly and you see
good signal on most transponders, just wait 2-5 minutes and the
keys will roll automagicly.

If you load the .key file it can mess up the autoroll process,
and it may not roll after that.

-If your still having problems, but it has worked fine in the
past. Try a factory reset, then re-flash firmware, and re-program.

====WHERE IS THE SUPER SECRET KEY MENU=====

type 8282 on your remote
(This wont show up with factory firmware)

-Again, you don't need to edit or load keys,
just load the correct firmware and channel list.
(see above)

====I'M MISSING A LOT OF THE CHANNELS====

-Are you using a D*shPro LNB ? That's the one that
has the lnb with a "large black D/P label".

Well if that's the case you need to load a D*shPro channel
list. 1.24 flash needs some special adjustments in the
channel list to use the oscillator specific to that LNB.

-SuperD*sh LNB's have a oscillator offset that is slightly
different than D*shPro LNB's.

====HELP MY COOLSAT IS REBOOTING/LOCKING====

-You may have a bad channel list. Try loading a different
list.

-There are some bad channel lists floating around out there.

-Be sure to double check transponders/channels for anomalies if
importing channel lists from other formats (gtools, channel master).

-If the problem persists, turn off the power unhook the lnb
cable to the receiver, then power up the receiver, open the
menu and wait to see if the unit is still locking. If so
you may have a bad receiver.

====THE COOLSAT REMOTE IS BROKEN====

-You get no led light when pressing buttons on remote.

When I first turned on my receiver I thought I had a bad remote.
Turns out that I had one battery in wrong.

-While you were away at work the kids played with the remote
and now it won't work.

Before you send it back, you might try pushing the "stb button"
on the remote to see if that fixes it.

If you accidently hit "dvd", "vcr" or "tv" button, it will seem
like the remote is not working.

Rebooting the coolsat will not solve the problem so this is a
CoolSat bug.

====I FORGOT MY PASSWORD TO THE COOLSAT=====

-The master password is 0103
